Mackinaw Area Historical Society’s Heritage Village Honored with 2024 Keep Michigan Beautiful Presidential Award
Mackinaw City, MI – October 12, 2024 – The Mackinaw Area Historical Society (MAHS) is pleased to announce that its historical park, Heritage Village, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Keep Michigan Beautiful Presidential Award. This recognition celebrates the efforts of dedicated volunteers who have transformed Heritage Village into a vibrant historical destination that showcases the rich heritage of the community.
Heritage Village, nestled in Mackinaw City, is a living museum that offers visitors an immersive experience in the history of the region. Featuring meticulously restored buildings, interactive exhibits, and educational programs, the Village provides a glimpse into life in Northern Michigan from 1880 through 1917. In addition to Heritage Village, the nearby May Woods trails invite nature enthusiasts to explore the stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems of the area.
MAHS President Sandy Planisek expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This award is a testament to the power of volunteering and the dedication of our community. Heritage Village is a reflection of our shared history and the passion of our volunteers who work tirelessly to preserve and promote it.
