Mackinaw Area Historic Festival Delights the Community with a Day of Tradition and Fun

Mackinaw City, MI – The Mackinaw Area Historical Society’s annual Historic Festival on July 26, 2025, was a resounding success, bringing together community members and visitors for a day filled with engaging activities, historical reenactments, and family fun.

The festival transformed the Heritage Village into a vibrant celebration of the region’s rich history. Highlights included a lively lumberjack show, a demonstration of the working sawmill, and a spirited period-based baseball game that transported spectators back in time. Children enjoyed games inspired by historical traditions, and families indulged in delicious food and treats, adding to the festive atmosphere.

“The Historic Festival is one of our favorite ways to connect the community with the past,” said Sandy Planisek, President of the Mackinaw Area Historical Society. “It’s a joy to see people of all ages come together to celebrate and learn about Mackinaw’s heritage in such a fun, interactive way.”

The day’s events culminated with the traditional Maypole celebration, a crowd favorite that brought everyone together to close the festival on a high note.

Volunteers and attendees praised the event for its engaging activities and family-friendly atmosphere. “It’s amazing to see history come to life like this,” said Meghan Flynn, a festival volunteer. “Kids loved the games and the lumberjack show, and they all learned something new about the area’s past.”

The Mackinaw Area Historical Society extends its gratitude to all volunteers, sponsors, and attendees who made the event possible. Planning is already underway for next year’s festival, which promises to be even more exciting.
