Mackinaw Area Historical Society Announces New Leadership for Board of Directors

The Mackinaw Area Historical Society (MAHS) is proud to announce its newly elected Board of Directors leadership for 2025. This transition marks an exciting chapter for the organization as it continues to preserve and celebrate the rich history of the Mackinaw region. Leadership nominations and voting are conducted within the board, ensuring a collaborative and thoughtful process.

As Sandy Planisek steps down from her role as President, she will remain an active member of the board. Sandy’s leadership and dedication have been instrumental in advancing the mission of MAHS. Reflecting on this new chapter, she shared, “I’m excited to see the next generation of leadership take the reins at MAHS. Their passion, energy, and fresh perspectives will undoubtedly carry the organization forward in meaningful and impactful ways.”

The new Board of Directors leadership includes:

Angie Morthland, President
Angie brings a creative spirit and deep passion for history to her role as President. “I love researching local history, exploring nature, and portraying historical characters. Preserving nature and the past while educating others aligns perfectly with the MAHS mission, making it the ideal place to invest my creative energies,” she shared.

Frank Boles, Vice President
A lifelong enthusiast of Michigan history, Frank offers extensive experience as a special collections library director. “The MAHS is an extraordinarily successful model of what a community organization can achieve in documenting local history. I’m proud to be part of such a dynamic and impactful society,” he said.

Donna Falor, Treasurer
As Treasurer, Donna brings her expertise and enthusiasm for financial management to the organization. In addition to her work behind the scenes, Donna enjoys serving as a docent, welcoming visitors on Sundays and guiding students during school tours. Her interactions with guests allow her to share her appreciation for the rich history and natural beauty of the Mackinaw area.

Meghan Flynn, Director of Communications & Technology
With a background in marketing and technology, Meghan blends her professional expertise with a lifelong love of history. “Joining the MAHS board allows me to preserve and share the area’s rich heritage with a broader audience, combining my passions in a way that inspires others,” she explained.

MaryAnn Moore, Recording Secretary
MaryAnn’s creative talents and dedication to Heritage Village’s maintenance make her a vital contributor. “Heritage Village and May Woods soothe my soul. I’m honored to support MAHS by combining my passion for history and love for nature,” she shared.

Karla Wolfe, Director of Correspondence & Outreach
Karla’s love for the area’s natural beauty and history led her to join MAHS. “Discovering Heritage Village and May Woods inspired me to become part of the community that keeps this history alive for future generations,” she noted.

The MAHS board also includes several General Directors: Bill Marvin, LeeAnn Ewer, Patrick Smyth, Roy Cole, Mark Scholten and Justin Barta.

The Mackinaw Area Historical Society extends its gratitude to all board members, past and present, for their tireless efforts in preserving the cultural and natural heritage of the Mackinaw region. The organization looks forward to a bright future under the guidance of its new leadership.
